install SPRSService is not recognized as the name of a cmdlt

That is the message I get when I try to install the service using SP powershell.

SP2013 Enterprise SP1 w/SQL2012 SP2

I have done the following:

          • installed SSRS sharepoint and add on in SQL Server 2012
          • added to default local admin group which is called Administrator.<<Yes>>
          •  part of farm administrators group in Central Admin site <<Open Central Admin -->Security--Mange farm admin group - YES>>
        •  part of windows WSS_Admin_WPG group <<Server manger-->Configurations-->Local User and Group-->Groups   YES>>
      •  server login with dbcreator, public, and sysadmin rights on DB <<For this you need to login to SQL server and verify permissions on content DB - yes>>
    • For the SP config database, farm admin should be added to SharePoint_Shell_Access role membership. <<THis also required SQL server login - yes>>
  • Read/Write access to Web application <<Central Admin--Manage Web Application-->User Policy - yes>>

I keep getting this message and do not know why...

I have read that the non slipstream sp1 fixes this issue but I have SP2 installed. Should that not have all the functionality I need?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Luis

Hi Luis,

According to your description, when you try to install Reporting Services SharePoint Service, the error install SPRSService is not recognized as the name of a cmdlt is thrown out, right?

In Reporting Services, when we configure reporting services SharePoint mode for SharePoint 2013, we must install SQL Server 2012 SP1. Only after I installed SP1 on SSRS the SSRS cmdlets became available. Please refer to this article: Supported Combinations of SharePoint and Reporting Services Server and Add-in (SQL Server 2012). In your scenario, please install latest SQL Server SP1 for report server and Reporting Services add-in for SharePoint.

Besides, the error also can be caused by that the Reporting Services SharePoint mode is not installed or we are in the Windows Powershell instead of the SharePoint Management Shell. In your scenario, though you mention you have tried install the service using SP PowerShell, it would be better you can also look at this article: PowerShell cmdlets for Reporting Services SharePoint Mode .

Reference:
SQL Svr 2012 / SharePoint 2013 "Install-SPRSService is not recognized..."
Install-SPRSService is not Recognized ErrorSharePoint 2013 SQL 2012 Reporting Services

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Best regards,
Qiuyun Yu
