how to set lookup date to date field in sharepoint 2010 workflow

I would like to automatically copy a date (via lookup field from a calendar) into a date field within a list, for purposes of creating a formula to compare the two dates.  I am aware that I cannot use a date from the lookup field to do this, therefore I have attempted to use a workflow (using SharePoint Designer) to set the list field (date) to that of the lookup field date.  Since the date itself is not apparent for my use, I would like to use the Title of the calendar item and transpose the corresponding date as the date to perform the calculation.

If anyone has any past experience using this functionality, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

As I understand, in your list, there are two dates which you want to do calculation. One date is a lookup column to get value from calendar list and lookup column is unable to do calculation.

You could create the third date column to get the value of the lookup column via SharePoint Designer 2010 and do calculation between the date column and the third date column.

About how to copy the lookup column to third date column, you could add Update List Item, shown as figure below. Besides, please select Return field as Lookup Value (as Date/Time).

Thanks,
