how can i use a custom site template created from different Server ?
hello everyone, iam wonder if someone here the forum can help me with a site template: i have created a site template from my server where WSS 3.0 is installed and then i wanted to use the saved template into a friend server which also use the same wss version as i do, i uploaded the file into the site template gallery. but when i i want to create a new sharepoint site using a custom template, it doesnt shows up, under custom (template) tab, i can only see the template i saved from the current site. thus is really possible to use a site template from one different server to another ? i appreciate any help, thanks u in advanced./ cheers, Luis bras dos Santos

Site Actions / Site Settings / Page Layouts and site templates (Look and feel section)or just navigate to: [servername]/_Layouts/AreaTemplateSettings.aspx Use this UI to specify that a subsite can use the site template. -Steve Clark, Access MVP '00-'05Twin-soft.com

hi Steve clark, my situation is that i cant see the uploaded file when i want to create a new sharepoint under de tab custom. the template is not created from the same windows sharepoint service environment, i have my doubt if that could be the case, cos template i create from the current wss environment, is possible to see under de custom template while creating a new sharepoint site. i hope to give more clarity otherwise feel free to ask more about.. thanks u for the sharing.

Hi,Is the problematic template an application template or ordinary site template? If it is an application template, you should first install application template core solution. Also, if you want to create a site collection rather than a SharePoint site using this custom template, you should add this template globally via stsadm –o addtemplate command line.Hope it helps.Lily Wu

hi Lily Wu, thanks you for your good intention, actually it was about a ordinary site template, and the main issue i was struggle with was to deploy a english site template into a dutch windows sharepoint environment. i found the solution for that situation, i had to translate the template language, to be able to apply into a different wss 3.0 language environment. i used the kwizcom.com template converter and Voila!! i thank you all for the sharing.. that`s the best way to feel associated with all interesting matters!!
