I am currently using manage path with 3 web application

teams.contoso.com (hostname teams in iis)

projects.contoso.com (hostname projects in iis)

webapp3.contoso.com (hostname webapp3 in iis)

i started to have request like this

webapp4.contoso.com

webapp5.contoso.com

....

so i figure i need hosted name site collection. 

Is the a way to keep existing web application and use hosted name collection for on going? or i have to convert everything to hosted name site collection. I hear hosted name site collection can only have one web application and it can't use host header. please advice

You would create a new web application for HNSCs to go in. You would then take backups of the existing site collections, delete their web applications and then restore the site collections to the new HNSC web application.
