I dont know what I did but when I used to plug in my hmdi cable the picture on my laptop goes dark transfers to my tv then comes on with it all working on tv now the sound stays on the laptop only.

I suggest trying another HDMI cable firstly.

Hi Patrick

If an alternative HDMI lead doesn't resolve the issue try these steps:

Open Control Panel > Click on 'Sound' > Click on the 'Playback' tab on the top of the popup window that will have opened > Right click in the window and make sure 'Show Disabled Devices' is checked > 'Speakers' should be set as the default, if there are more devices listed than 'Speakers' try setting each different device as the default by selecting the device and then clicking the 'Set as default' button at the bottom of the window.

If that does not work please post a list of the devices that appear in the 'Playback' list.
