hiding a document library to avoid the access denied message on page, possible?
As of right now, i've restricted the permissions on a document library on a page so that restricted users cant access them.. but in doing so they get: Access denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. In the past.. i was able to get around this by placing those libraries in subsites.. i'd rather avoid a subsite if possible... Is it possible to do this (hide them, the libraries directly)? Thanks

Hi markm75c,You can try using audience targeting. Click the Document Library Settings on the Settings drop down menu.Under General Settings section, click on the Audience targeting settings. Enable the audience targeting and click Ok.The next time you upload your document, you will be asked for the audience of the document. This should automatically hide the document from users not listed in the audience.Hope this helps,Charles A.

MOSS OOB is set to do exactly what you want. If you restrict permissions on a document library, when the user goes to "View all site content," they will not be able to see the document library. You should test restricting access to a test account and try it out for yourself. I believe this is what you're looking for.

Apparently I kinda mixed up with someone else's question...My previous post is to hide per document in document library to users not listed in its audience.Agreed with Jarrett says, it can be hidden. If your site doesn't inherit permission from parent site, you can add/remove users for the specific library in the Library Setting page (just like my previous post), under Permissions and Management section, click on the Permissions for this document library. You can then select the user permission for the library.Hope this helps.

So this method will make the library link on the page "disappear" then or be hidden..? I just want to avoid having its title on the page with the access or listing denied message to unauthorized users...

Is there a solution to this that anyone found? No one is saying here that MOSS 2007 is incapable of securing documents. Of course, you can revoke a person'saccess to adocument. The OP wastalking about the entire DocumentLibrary. Why in the world would you want to tease your audience with a place-holder for a Doc Library which they are not authorized to access, though? There needs to be a way to hide it -- OOB behavior is to display it, then taunt the viewer that "You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource."

Best thing to do is add audience targeting to the document library web part. Create a group for the user/s. Then add them to audience targeting at the bottom of the advanced section of the webpart. Peace
