help with permissions on Word forms in doc library
I must be doing something wrong with permissions. I've got some Word documents on our intranet that are the kind the user can fill out. The library permissions are set to provide SiteName Visitors with read/view rights and SiteName Members with Contribute rights. The intent is that normal staff (SiteName Visitors) would have to save the document to to their computer to fill it out. Only admins in the Members group could make edits and save it back to the SP server. But when I test this with a test user in the Visitors group, I can type into it and save it back to the doc library. What am I doing wrong? There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you're are trying to accomplish.

Hi, I have tested what you met . And everything went right .Did you break the permission inheritance on these documents ?By default, permissions on lists, libraries, folders, items, and documents are inherited from the parent site. . however, you can break this inheritance for any securable object at a lower level in the hierarchy by editing the permissions on that securable object (that is, creating a unique permission assignment) .You should check whether you have set the permissions right by doing: 1. Sign in as a user who has the permission to edit permission levels. 2. Click Site actions>Site settings>Advanced permissions>settings>permission levels . 3. Click on the permission level which you used for the SiteName Visitor group . 4. In the list permission level ,make sure that only the ‘View Items’ and ‘Open Items’ are chosen .Don’t choose ‘Edit Item’ and ‘Add Items’ . 5. Click OK to save the settings. There is another way you can change the Target audiences by doing: 1. On the doc library page ,Click Site Actions>Edit Page. 2. On the document library web part click edit>Modify shared Web Part. 3. Open ‘Advanced’ and type in the Target Audiences .Then choose ‘Exit edit mode’ . Hi, I think you might have broken down the permission at some level. To verify this easily I would suggest you to get AdminToolkit installed. This will provide you a feature to check effective permissions. Once you will install it you will get a link to check effective permissions under document library settings. You will find a link "Check Effective Permissions". Refer this link for admintoolkit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=cd2d09a7-1159-4d40-be1c-8efab1345381 I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu
