group discovery slow in CM2012

Hi Guys,

I am experiencing extremly slow response when running full discovery of "Group Discovery" cycle. It takes more than a week to fnish up the full discovery causing all delta changes in between to stay undiscovered whilel full cycle is running.

I am suspecting if slowness has anything to do with the fact that I have checked all three boxes in the options tab. Do I really need to discover computers when Group Discovery is running? Can I just uncheck all 3 options and let System Dicovery to take care of discovering systems rather than Group Discovery?

Thanks you for response.

What does the logfile tell? How many objects are discovered in total?

The total objects are over 40,000 and the discovery spends 2-3 min on each group. Why does it spend few minutes vs. few seconds on each group when discovering?

Hi,

"Active Directory Group Discovery attempts to discover each member of each group in the discovery scope. Discovery of large groups can require extensive use of bandwidth and Active Directory resources."

You could try to narrow the discovery scope.(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712308.aspx#BKMK_DiscMethods)

Best Regards,

Is it worth to uncheck everything in the option tabs so it can speed up the discovery?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

IMO this is not normal and I would suggest looking at your DCs to see if they are the cause of the slowness.  In Any case it might be worthwhile open a support case with CSS, they can work with you to solve this issue.
