While waiting for 2010 to be released we read many times that users would be able to reset passwords from a web interface. Now that we've got a few test users in our deployment it appears that the desktop client must be installed when accessing the passord portal. You can imagine how useless this is for thousands of users that are offsite. Are we missing something, like a web-app that we need to deploy, or is this it? Desktop client is required? Desktop client is required. There is no solution from Microsoft that uses a web interface. Even the password portal that comes with FIM invokes the desktop client.
