We have a MOSS 2007 publishing site setup initially by some consultant who no longer works here. I have the following question I cannot get an answer. I recently setup a testing server basically the same as the production server. Everything works fine. Our site uses customized master pages, I can see the custmoized master in the master page gallery in the testing server. And all the pages look the same as the production server. But I just observed on the production server there are some features folder are not on the testing server, the features's names are those of our 3 customized master pages. I know I can copy them to the testing server, and install those features and active them. But my question is: why the pages look the same on testing server and on production server even I didn't copy those features and activate them? Is that because those master pages are already in Master page galleries? Then what's the difference for the master pages in the master page gallery and from those in features folder, import/copy one of them will be enough? And how can I check out if the features are used or not on the prodcution server, I mean even they are activated, they may not used? Thanks

you need to find out what those features are for. there are dozens of possibilities - one is that the features hold master pages for different site collections. so even if they are installed they are not being used. or they have been activated but the someone has went ahead and changed to another master page from the master page gallery. hope im not out of line here to say that this question is way too open ended. as you dont have the details, i cant provide the answer. more details pls or hoping someone else can helpKanwal SharePoint Buzz

Thanks. We have a main and major site collection, I can see those features are activated on production server on site collection level, I can see them in master page galleries too. Which ones are the site using? I'm not sure what other detail information I need provide, please advise. I see in the feature folder, there is a feature.xml file which points to an xml called provisionfiles.xml.
