fbl_impressive professional 10074 can't update to Build 10240

Hi everyone !

I'm running Build 10074 of Windows 10 Pro Insider. After reading some tech news, I've learned about a new 10240 which could be an RTM release. So I went straight to Windows Update to get the newest build but it told me that my system is already up to date ...

How can I get the latest ? Is it an issue ?

Thanks in advance for your help

If your 10074 is activated (and not enterprise) I would try this

I would do 2 things

1-delete off the softwaredistribution folder

To clear the contents of the softwaredistribution folder, enter the below commands in an elevated command prompt.

net stop wuauserv
rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q
net start wuauserv
exit

2- run a system file check to find the state of the OS

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM (if necessary) if you are on win 8 or higher
All instructions are in our Wiki article below...
Should you have any questions please ask us.

Darktitor,

You have been holding on to 10074 for this long ( and I have no idea how you manage to hold on to this old build ), you might as well wait for another 10 days.

By July 29th, Windows 10 RTNM is to be released.
If you are entitled to a free upgrade, and you get the notification from MS for that, then your problem might be over.

He's not alone in this one. I think a lot of people had issues software updating to 101240 from 10074.

Now it's near RTM and 101240 is out, it's been worth giving it a go.

Of the 3 machines I have, 2 are on 10240 fine, the third is sat on 10074 and says everything is up to date as well. It's been saying that for some time now...

Found a solution posted by another user - this worked great.

1. Change the registry key using windows + R keys (run) and type regedit

Change the entries from fbl_Impressive to TH1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability

Ring = WIF
BranchName = TH1
UserPreferredBranchName = TH1

2. Reboot your pc

3. Login and run windows update and it will download and install TH1 Professional Windows build 10240.

Just wanted to say thank you - this worked a treat for me. My laptop, which is rarely used, was on this build, while my desktop was up to date. I've just sent my desktop for repair so was trying to bring my laptop up to speed, and found I was stuck on 10074 for some reason - and of course couldn't download a newer ISO.

This did the trick for me, and I'm downloading 10240 right now. Thank you!

Changing in registry from fbl_impressive to TH1 finally made Update find 10240!

However, it immediately fails when it start downloading, with an "TH1 Professional 10240 - Error 0x80246017" exception message.

When I go to advanced setting now, TH1 is selected and a red text says "The selected branch is not set to receive preview builds".

Under "Choose how preview builds are installed" I now have three sections.

"Preview Builds are On" with a greyed out "Change" button below it,

The Fast / Slow drop down box, but now greyed out and with Slow selected,

The dropdown for branch, with TH1 selected and the rext text above it. If I change back to fbl_impressive and reboot, I get back to my "original" 10074 state, with no branch selection possible (the dropbox / help text is removed).

Any further tips? Yes, I'm just being impatient :)

I have tried toggling the ThresholdInternal / ThresholdOptedin values from 0 to 1 to 0 too, without any new results.
