exit code 1618 during task sequence
Hey All, I have a task sequence that is deploying a number of software items. I have found that two of the items are exiting with error code 1618. I know this is one of the exit codes that initiates a retry (thanks to Roger Zander and Wally). However as far as I can tell the failed items never rerun. Can someone advise me what the rerun behaviour is during a task sequence. Cheers, Simon.

Is your task sequence advertisement is optional ? if not,you can set it as "Rerun if failed on previous attempt". Koneti @ http://eskonr.wordpress.com/

Eric, I've looked in execmgr.log and found two different errors (aside from the 1618 error) The first I belive is expected as we are running the job with no user interaction Executing program as a script execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) Successfully prepared command line "C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\100000F5\setup.exe" execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) Command line = "C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\100000F5\setup.exe", Working Directory = C:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\100000F5\ execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) Failed to retrieve current (user, session) pair (0x80070002). execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) ::GetSMSConsoleSessionId - No SMS console session found. execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) Created Process for the passed command line execmgr 02/09/2010 14:02:03 388 (0x0184) The other I don't recognise Succesfully posted completion notification task execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) Updating source list updated for product {837b34e3-7c30-493c-8f6a-2b0f04e2912c} in program INSTALL -- Microsoft Visual C 2005 Redist package 10000073 execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) Source list update failed for product {837b34e3-7c30-493c-8f6a-2b0f04e2912c}, error 80004001 execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) Deleting request from pending queue, package 10000073, program INSTALL -- Microsoft Visual C 2005 Redist, advertisement 201200F4 execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) CExecutionRequest::InvalidAndDeleteFromWmi INSTALL -- Microsoft Visual C 2005 Redist execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) Execution Request for package 10000073 program INSTALL -- Microsoft Visual C 2005 Redist state change from Running to Completed execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) Persisting request for program INSTALL -- Microsoft Visual C 2005 Redist package 10000073 in state Completed execmgr 02/09/2010 13:55:30 3624 (0x0E28) I have noticed that the item that is failing is normally after one of our AV installs which are all exe rather than msi. I'm wondering if the exe is spawning an msi and that is what is causing the original 1618 error, but it does not explain why the apps are not rerunning. Thanks, Simon.

1618 means another installation is already running. :)

I know this has been a while but I do have an answer...finally. The package in question was Office 2010 this was exiting with 1618 as the package beforehand (McAfee AntiVirus) was not exiting correctly and causing the next job to fail. I had our ePO administrator repackage the AV and the issue was resolved.
