Hi,

Based on your description, My understanding is that you want to send email to target audience with a SharePoint workflow

You can send email to target audience in this way:

  1. Enable target audience setting in the library, then a column named Target Audience will be created.
  2. Then create a workflow in SharePoint designer.
  3. Add a 'Send an email' action.
  4. Click on 'these user' to add the email address.
  5. Select 'workflow lookup for a user'. Then you can select Target Audience column in current item to send the email to.

Hi,

Whether you can choose Target Audiences for your library/list.

Make sure you have enabled Target Audiences in your SharePoint:

Yes, this is all setup.  I'm not even using the Target Audiences setup in the Admin tools.  I'm using the local SP Groups selected as Target Audiences.

I could try both but I should be able to email these groups.  I can do it if they aren't selected as a Target Audience.

Hi,

Target audience is a group which based on rules compilation, and it works as the dynamic distribution group in Exchange. The members in target audience are calculated when it is used in SharePoint, and you cannot obtain the members from workflow or custom programs. Only static groups (here are the SharePoint groups) are supported to be used in workflow or custom programs.

So it is by design that not supported.

Do you have any supporting docs on this? Info on what I can and can't do with Target Audiences is light.

Hi,

Basically target audience can only apply to the OOTB features.

Here is a link what we can do with target audience:

https://support.office.com/en-au/article/Target-content-to-specific-audiences-33d84cb6-14ed-4e53-a426-74c38ea32293

But I haven't find this kind of docs that explaining that what I have offered.
