dynamic multi column (newspaper style formatting)
hi everyone, i've got an interesting dilemma. in a main report there is a certain subreport which returns a table of data. this data could either be a single column or about 15 columns. if it is a small number of columns (lets say about 3), then i would want it to display across 3 newspaper style verticals. if however the data is lets say 5 columns then 2 newspaper style verticals, and if more than that then use a whole page. the dynamic columns i've figured can be done via conditional visibility (please share any other methods you are aware of to do this), but i cant seem to do dynamic multi column (newspaper style) any help on this one? i know it is a strange request but reasonable nonetheless. thank you very much!!

Hi dedbeat, Thanks for your question. According to your description, my understanding is that: there is one table in the sub report, this table has 15 columns, you had used condition to control the columns’ visibility, so for different column number of the visible columns, you setting different columns of Newspaper style, the real requirement is you would like the Newspaper style dynamically changes based on the visible columns, right? If I misunderstand your question, please don’t hesitate to let me know. In this condition, as we know, for the current released editions of SSRS, you must specify a static columns number of Newspaper style in design time, besides we have no idea to set this value with an expression. For this requirement, I would recommend you submit a suggestion to Microsoft Connect at this link: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback . In your feedback, you can quote the URL to this thread, so that the whole conversation can be available. Every feedback submitted will be evaluated carefully by our engineers, Microsoft might consider to add this feature in the following release. Thank you dedbeat and all for your valuable feedback again! Sharp Wang Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help you and unmark them if they provide no help.
