downgrading from MOSS to WSS
I am in a situtation where the client wants to develop site in MOSS and deploy it in WSS (weird),Since the proj has not yet started I am thinking of deactivating MOSS features and using only features that are there in both WSS and MOSS.Is this a good way to do it or any better ideas to maintain the compatiblity at the time of deploying in WSS.

I am afraid it will be a big headache. Actually it is possible to develop site on MOSS and after that install the solution on WSS but I suggest you setup WSS DEV environment. Oleg

WSS is free if you have a license for Windows server where WSS is running. Usually this is a reason:) Oleg

I strongly recommend not to do the down gradation. I had too many problems getting everything back from MOSS settings to WSS. Especially the email part doesn't work at all. Believe me its a pain.

We actually have a MOSS where individual teams have their development going on in different subsites (so for those teams they need MOSS) and also client wants the development work to be done there itself instead of a whole new set up of WSS so that it can be accessible at one place after the development is done they want to put that in production which is WSS so they feel this is not a big problem. This is the reason for downgrading and they want me to use only WSS features, the site development will involve only basic HTML pages with some simple webparts and document libraries and a customized master page.the site would not involve stuff like email, work-flows or any MOSS features so let me know if this is possible.

Hi, Since that you have not started your project, why don't you re-create your environment? As i know, there is no mature idea about this need except your have WSS backup. Hope it is helpful!Seven
