detecting workstations on System Center Essentials 2007
Hello all, My network has 250 workstations. I installed SCE2007 . Most of the workstations are detected by the SCE, I see them in the "all clients" built in group in the SCE, and the WS's are getting updates from the WSUS feature of the SCE. Some of the WS's are not detected by the SCE. I searched for info & did some things trying to solve the issue. Each action I took caused some WS's to be detected by the SCE, but now I am stuck with 2 stubborn WS's that are not detected by the SCE . 1. I verified the existence of the following registry values, and added them if they were absent : Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate] "AcceptTrustedPublisherCerts"=dword:00000001 "WUServer"="https:// my_domain_controller_fqdn:8531" "WUStatusServer"="https://my_domain_controller_fqdn:8531" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU] "AUOptions"=dword:00000004 "NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"=dword:00000001 "ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000 "ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000003 "UseWUServer"=dword:00000001 I then run "gpupdate /force" , and then "wuauclt detectnow" 2. All my WS's has OEM sticker on them. I verified that the product key that is actually written inside the operating system is identical to the product key on the sticker. I don't understand how this can affect anything, but it actually enabled me to detect some WS's. 3. I verified the following services are in "Automatic" and "Started" status on the WS's : RPC Windows Installer Automatic Updates Remote Registry Print Spooler opsmgr health service netlogon service server service DCOM This has also made some WS's detected by the SCE. 4. I also clicked on "administration" -> configure computers and devices to manage -> advanced discovery -> clients only -> browse for computer names -> [browse for computer name] -> next -> "other user account" -> [type domain administrator account name and password] -> "Discover" -> The workstation is found, but when I try to install the agent it gives the message: "one or more computers you are trying to manage are already in the process of being managed. please resolve these issues via the "Pending Management" view in "Administration", prior to attempting to manage them again." I see the WS under "Pending Management" -> "Installation in progress" , and it stays there forever. After all the above, I am left with stubborn WS's that are not detected. Any help appreciated. Erez

Hello Erez,The "Installation in Progress" pending management type indicates that the agent was installed, but has never successfully connected to the management server. In this state, the Approve command is unavailable by design (because it's a push install) and the only options are to reject the agent or fix the communication problem. General connectivity problems can cause this, however the most likely cause is a Kerberos error. Please read the article below for more information and solution:OpsMgr 2007: Agents stuck in Pending Management with Event ID 21016http://blogs.technet.com/smsandmom/archive/2008/03/13/opsmgr-2007-agents-stuck-in-pending-management-with-event-id-21016.aspxHope it helps,Yog Li - MSFT
