In our sharepoint 2013 environment the date picker is not working in the calendar list. when we click on it it does not show up the calendar. but the tricky part is if i create a whole new web application and create a new site collection and try the calendar list and pick up the event the date picker works and calendar pops up . i know its the .css or styles that are conflicting somewhere in our site . but i need your guidance that what should i look into , i tried playing with style.css, but nothing is working .

Just press f12 on your browser and then click on the datepicker and see there is some error there.

No man , actually i have firewall restrictions in my organization , cant send mails outside . but can you tell me would it be due to jquery not firing , but what about the other site where it is working fine . yes the css are different but i am not able to understand whats going on here.

This means that jquery is troubling you.Have put custom jquery on calendar page?Which version of sharepoint are you using?
