data flow layout tips with numerous objects
For data flows with numerous objects I have had difficulties making the layout "readable". For basic control flows and data flows, SSIS seems to automatically change sizing, etc. that messes up my neat layouts. At the moment I have a single XML data source with about 40 destinations plus some data conversions and derived columns in between. I struggle moving objects, sizing objects, etc. The SSIS interface seems flakey as these attempts often result in unexpected consequences -- sometimes resulting in drastic, undesirable changes. Yesterday I spent a lot of time trying to move the pipelines to make the data flow neater and more readable. It was a beat-down but, worse still, that effort was all undone and the results were worse than before when the source object was re-sized somehow without any intention on my part. In a nutshell I have ideas on how I can make the layout neater but it seems impossible to actually do so. In this case, for instance, I could make the source object much bigger vertically and then layout the destination objects vertically which may largely eliminate a tangle of pipelines. Can't get it done. The source object keeps getting re-sized or moved accidentally/automatically. Moving the pipelines sometimes yields odd results. Etc. I've tried the auto layout but the results are far from satisfactory with numerous objects. Any suggestions? This is getting really frustrating. Working with Visual Studio 2010.

You're using SSIS 2012? I've had issues with the resizing as well...MCTS, MCITP - Please mark posts as answered where appropriate.

Interestingly I recall experiencing different layout issues with previous versions. I cannot recall specifically what those were at this point. I am working on my data flow now. Still adding objects. The thing is a complete mess. Pipelines running all over the place, on top of each other, through other objects. It's quite unreadable.
