create word doc from sharepoint list

Hi,

I've migrated an InfoPath form and a 2010 SP list to SP2013. The workflow from the form creates a word docx. http://blogs.technet.com/b/brenclarke/archive/2009/04/15/automatically-create-word-documents-which-include-list-fields.aspx

The document is created, but without a file extension and none of the fields are completed in the docx.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have followed the link which you provided done a test in my environment.

Per my test, the document is created and all fields are displayed in the docx. but what do you mean that without a file extension?

Could you please offer a screenshot about the issue?

Besides, what do you mean that migrated an InfoPath form and a 2010 SP list to SP2013? Please offer more detailed information.

Hello,

When editing the template, you get an option to save the file. Change the extension from dotx file docx file

Once the change is made, you need to re-upload the file once again to get the changes

Hi Lorena423,

I have done a test again.

When I tested in a form library, I got the same issue that the document is created, but without a file extension and none of the fields are completed in the docx.

However, when I tested in a document library, the document is created and displayed with a docx file extension.

For your issue, replace the form library with a document library, followed the instruction, compare the results.

Hi - below is what is added to the document library.

The word doc icon, is what was done on SP2010 - before the site was migrated to SP2013.  If I create a new document from the document library, it does pull the correct template.  Is there any other information that I can give you?

Hi,

For your issue, when you create the workflow, make sure you set "Path and Name" to the value of "Current Item: File Name". refer to the screenshot:

Hi,

I don't have a "file name".

Hi,

Do not set "Path and Name" to the value of "Current Item: Name (for use in forms)".

If you can't find "File Name", you can also set "Path and Name" to the value of "Current Item: Title". refer to the screenshot:

You can add log to history action to compare the difference between those fields.

Thank you!

It's a little closer now as it creates a xml file.  I did log to the history, but I'm not sure what I am looking for.

Hi,

Now is it right that you can create word doc from SharePoint list with a docx file extension?

if it is ,Please mark it as an answer.

From the log message, we could find that the Description of "Name (for use in forms)" filed is 1_.000.

So when you create word doc from SharePoint list, it is without a docx file extension, When you view the properties of the issue file, you will see:

Hi,

The workflow creates an .xml file not a word docx.  If I go to the document library and select new document, it will create a new .docx file.

Is there a service that needs to be configured?

Thanks!

Hi,

I guess that your library is a form library.

But From the link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/brenclarke/archive/2009/04/15/automatically-create-word-documents-which-include-list-fields.aspxif you want to create a word docx not an .xml file, you need to use document library instead of form library.
