copy, then edit a calendar list item?
For our intranet, I created a Calendar of our staff training events. This is maintained by our HR dept. Sometimes, these events occur again in the future, but that date is not known at the time of the first list item creation. I am looking for a way that the list editor can easily copy a list item and just change the date so that she doesn't have to recreate the entire list item (we have a few custom columns beyond the usual calendar columns). Is there a way a list item can be copied and edited? I am aware this could be done in spreadsheet view, but am looking at what my alternatives are. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you're are trying to accomplish.

Hi, You can do it with sharepoint workflow. This will copy the items when required and set the start up as manual so that it should be started only when needed. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Hi, There's an easy answer, if it works for you. But you may already be referring to it and looking for something further. The Calendar has a view entitled "All Events". From the Calendar's menu bar, click to the right of "View" (at the far right) to open the menu. "All Events" is presented as a traditional list. The appropriate item can be edited for the new date. Or, if you want to maintain the original event info for historical purposes, the details can be copied and pasted into a new event. Best, Eric

Hi, here's a blog post about one way to go about it, which entails creating a data view web part in SharePoint Designer: Click to Copy List Item to NewLaura Rogers, MCSE, MCTS SharePoint911: SharePoint Consulting Blog: http://www.sharepoint911.com/blogs/laura Twitter: WonderLaura Beginning SharePoint 2010: Building Business Solutions with SharePoint

Thanks for all the suggestions. Though the answer proposed by Laura looks interesting, I was looking for something really simple for this. Will probably just copy/paste/edit the list in datasheet view. It's a little tricky because I don't want the user to kick off the calendar alert (on new item) before it is edited. There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you're are trying to accomplish.
