conflict with Local Intranet versus Trusted Site (on Sharepoint site)
I am building my first sharepoint site. For the Internet Options > Security I am advising user to add the site as a Local Intranet so that users don't have to login to the site once they are logged into their own computer. IE does not allow a site to be in both a trusted site and as a Local Intranet site. Not being a trusted site is an issue when a user is trying to check in a document directly from a document library using the contextual drop down menu provided on the library list item. In order to add versioning comments and check the document back in, the site has to be on the trusted site list. Can anyone advise if it is possible to be both, or a workaround for the check in process?

You shouldn't have to use the trusted zone and you only have to use the Local Intranet zone if you use a FQDN for your SharePoint sites (like portal.example.com). I would make sure your security settings are set to one of the default levels and try it again.

This should be a good FQDN: http://intranet.ergogroup.no, right? With default levels security settings, I have to answer yes in a warning dialog when I try download an Office dokument when the site is defined in the Local Intranet zone, while the document gets downloaded without any dialog when the iste is defines as a Trusted Site.I have also changed all options for the Local Intranet to those of Trusted Sites, exactly the same, but still I can't get rid of the security warning dialog when the site is in the Local Intranet zone. For other reasons, I cannot run the site as Trusted Site, I should have it in the Local Intranet. How can I solve this problem?Gülay

Sorry to bump this topic, but I have the exact same question, so it wouldn't make sense for me to start another thread. In case the problem isn't clear, there isn't a way to "trust" a website that has been manually listed in your Local Intranet sites. Even if you take the security level down for your Local Intranet zone, apparently there are still some benefits of actually having the site listed as trusted. The original poster stated that his issue is with checking in documents and versioning (which I haven't run into yet). My issue is with the prompt that users get to confirm that they trust the source of the file when they try to open in in Office from the site (as kutgul pointed out). Now I'll go ahead and point out a workaround that gives you the best of both worlds: add your Sharepoint site as a Trusted Site and edit the security to allow for "automatic logon with current user name and password" in that zone. The only drawback with this that I can think of is the possibility of it conflicting with other Trusted Sites that aren't local -trying to log in with your credentials in those sites. That being said, I still find it odd that intranet sites aren't automatically trusted, or treated in the same way. Does anyone know of a way to allow you to properly consider your internal Sharepoint site as such while giving you the benefits of a trusted site (hint: setting the security level of "Local intranet" to "Low" does not solve the problem).
