changing the url address of your server
I need to install a new server to replace my old server, but i would like to still use the old url as everyone is use to it, rather than use a new default name. What are the steps for me to do this? I believe it`s to do with Access Mapping?

Hi Mike, thankyou for the reply. Iam hoping to move everything from the old to the new as i have a rather large document control workflow involving many workflow actions etc. The old box has a standalone install, but the new box will have a farm install.
the user base is very very small, 50 users at the most ans so i have to think about what would be the easiest option will be, then to know how to move everything. I sure would like some help with this if you have some time.
regards
darren

Try this
http://blogs.technet.com/b/chris_hernandez/archive/2007/12/03/migrating-microsoft-office-sharepoint-server-moss-from-standalone-to-farm-install.aspx. I think this is an answer on your question.

Besides update DNS to point old URL to new IP address, you should extend your SharePoint web application to the old URL.

I am unable to create a site collection, all i recieve is an error page stating:
The page cannot be displayed because your server's current configuration does not support it. To perform this task, use the command line operations in Stsadm.exe.
Any ideas anyone?
