change default Search Center

I created a new Search Center (site collection). I'm trying to get the Search box (at top right corner of page) to use my new Search Center.

However, it keeps using the old/current Search Center.

Under Site Settings/Search Settings, I did Enable Custom Scopes and I put the URL for my new Search Center http://server/sites/MyNewSearchCenterName/Pages

Then I have "Show Scopes dropdown"

Then under Site Collection Search Results page, I left it as it was "/_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx" .  Don't know if that needs to be changed?

But, if I add a Search Web Part to my page, it does use my new Search Center, but I don't want a Search Web Part on my page.    I want to use the Search box at top right corner of page; I want that connected to my new Search Center.

Can anyone help?  Is there somewhere where you specify the default Search Center to use?  I can't figure out why its still using the old search center.

thanks!

Can you only have one Search Center per web application?

I don't understand what is going on.

I just created a brand new site collection and set it to use the new Search Center, but its using the old Search Center.

any ideas?

If I set the "Site Collection Search Dropdown Mode" = "Do not show scopes dropdown, and default to target results page";  then it does use the correct Search Center.

But if I change this setting to show the Scopes Dropdown, then the search uses the old search center.   Why would it use the incorrect search center?  And I even deleted this incorrect search center site collection.

How can I Show Scopes Dropdown and have our Search still work correctly to use the correct Search Center site collection?

Any help would be appreciated.  thanks!
