central administration will not open after adding a second web front end
Hello all,I am adding my database server (server 2003 standard sp2) as a eb front end to deploy reports to the top level web site. WSS 3.0 was already installed on the database server and joined to a different farm and supplying reports to users internally. The plan is to add the reports to a external facing farm so the reports are accessable from the internet. So I detached from the internal farm---upgraded the WSS on the database to service pack 2 so it would be at the same service pack as the farm----then added the database server to the farm with almost no problem. Now when I open central administration on either server I get an address of http://webserver:portnumber but it will not open the site.I know the site works and is viewable because if I add /default.aspx to the URL (http://webserver:portnumber/default.aspx ) the site comes up and I can navigate to any of the links without any trouble. I cannot find anything on this problem so I was hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction.Regards,Sean Condron

This often happens because something you have done has caused the wrong version of the asp.net dll to take precedence. Try resetting it as described here: http://prequest01.wordpress.com/2008/11/27/unable-to-open-sharepoint-sites-without-defaultaspx/ Regards John Timney
