ccmcache size growing beyond set limit

Hi,

SCCM 2012 R2 and recently installed CU4.

We had few machines out of diskspace and while cleanup %windir%\ccmcache growing bigger than set limit of 8192 MB.

Client install is done using group policy.

Command line: "\\SMS\Client\ccmsetup.exe" SMSSITECODE=SMS CCMENABLELOGGING=TRUE CCMLOGLEVEL=0 FSP=SMS.COM /usePKICert /NOCRLCheck SMSCACHESIZE=8192

How could the cache size grow bigger than the set limit? and what is the behvior of SCCM client to delete ccmcache? How to identify if the ccmcache is being deleted automatically?

The oldest content are about 3months old and were downloaded during a TS deployment. I know the software updates download ignore the size limit but we noticed more application package content in the cache rather than software updates.

That's really hard to tell without sitting in front of the system. Software updates usually cause that, but this should also be fixed in whatever CU. How much space is taken in total and how much for applications/updates?

i believe, the cache size will never go beyond the size what you set and you can see the cache size set from control panel--configuration manager applet--cache tab. What is the current occupied size of your cache size ? is that beyond the set limit ?

about cache maintenance and how does it do auto cleanup ,refer the blog http://blogs.technet.com/b/manageabilityguys/archive/2013/05/07/configmgr-2012-client-cache-part-1-overview.aspx

Software updates were not taken into account when it came to calculating the cache size being used.

SCCM 2012 R2 and recently installed CU4.

Is R2 CU4 actually deployed to the clients; i.e., did you explicitly deploy it? Have you explicitly verified theat the client exceeding the cache size have installed R2 CU4?

Hi Jason, Torsten, Eswar

R2 CU4 is not yet deployed to clients. Eswar Thanks for sharing the CU2 update link looks like we need to deploy the CU4 update ASAP to find if it fixes the issue.

The ccmcache folder size for a machine was ~13GB while the limit is set to 8192 MB. The configuration manager applet indicates size is set at 8192MB.

I pushed a TS deployment of packages with size ~3GB and found the cache size increased beyond 8GB. Before deployment cache size for 7.69GB and after deployment completed it is 9.8GB. There are software updates in the cache as well which are of size 800MB.

Question: When do the Software Updates that are downloaded in cache deleted?
