cannot create New SSP
Hi I've just ran the set up wizard on my server running Server 2003 IIS 6 andinstalled theServer Farm optionI've been able to bring up the Central Administration page. I'm using an MCTS Sharepoint Server Study guide and going through the steps...The problem I'm having is that the book is telling me that the first step is to go to the Application Management tab and click on Create or Configure this farm's shared services link and then clickon New SSP. When I click on the New SSP nothing happens...it doesn't even look like the page is refreshing. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be? Thanks in advance.

Hi...an update to the problem I'm having...So instead of creating a New SSP first, I'm trying to Create a New Web Application, however; when I fill in all the values and select the OK submit button nothing happens either. Some of the links to navigate around the Central Admin page allow me to move around the site however when I'm trying to perform select admin tasks like creating a new web app or new ssp nothing happens when I click on the links and there is no error message to give me an indication what is wrong.

hi marcus72,you need to first create a new web application to house your SSP.here's a link to help you:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288705.aspxnext, under "application management" click the 'create or configure this farm's shared services"next, click the "new SSP" buttonmake sure you select the web application that you just created in the first step above.try this out.

OK, I've run through the steps described in the technet article to create a new web application however when I fill in the appropriate values and select OK nothing happens. In fact a lot of the form values seem to be inactive or unresponsive. For instance the drop down to select an existing IIS web site is greyed out and Default Web Site is selected the same goes with selecting an application pool and when I select the Database SQL authentication and attempt to enter any values I cannot type anything into the text boxes. Also when I go toextend an existing web application I can enter values into text boxes but I cannot select anything from the web application drop down, it actually says No Selection and the OK submit button is disabled. In the event log I do see a warning event stating:"Could not import the registry hive into the registry because it does not exist in the configuration database" Thanks again for any help, this is very frustrating...

Hi, What is your SharePoint servers version? Did you run SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration wizard successfully? If not, please rerun it and post the error information into the forum. You can check the following permission settings: Check Permissions in SQL SERVER for that login account.. Check Permissions for that Login Account in Computer Management. Check Central Administration-Application Management-Operations-Service Accounts-Add The Account Which has the Administrator Rights. Try To create Shared Service Provider-Get the Application In Dropdown list-Click Configurable-Pass The Username And Password-OK To configure an SSP, you must have already configured an index server for the farm. Without an index server, creation of a new SSP will fail. For more information about configuring an index server, see the following article: Chapter overview: Create and configure Shared Services Providers http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262914.aspx For more information about Office SharePoint Server Security Account Requirements, please refer to (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=92883&clcid=0x409). Hope this helps. Rock WangRock Wang MSFT

Especially on a server box, web security can be tight. Check that Javascript is enabled or try a different browser. Had IE-8 on a new Windows Server 2008 install. A different browser worked for me. There were no warnings, popups, event log entries, etc...
