can i assign a datasource to a solution containing multiple projects in SSRS?
Hi All,I have multiple projects in a given solution and all the projects share a common datasource.Instead of creating datasource for each of the project can i assign a single data source to a solution?

yes you can. open solution explorer, and add your datasource to the section 'shared datasources'.

Hi Dev_sql,Yes. We can. Please follow these steps to do so:1. Please go to the project folder of a existing report serve project.E.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Samples\Reporting Services\Report Samples\AdventureWorks Sample Reports2.Copy the <datasourcename>.rds. RDS file the report datasource definition file.E.g. AdventureWorks2008.rds3.Go the new project folder of the new report server projectE.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Samples\Reporting Services\Report Samples\AdventureWorks Sample Reports24.Paster the datasource file.5.In the new project(Visual Studio), add an Exist Item, select the file we have pastered in step4.6.Deploy the datasource to the same location of the original report server project. Now, we can use a single data source for mutliple report server projects. If there is anything unclear, please feel free to ask. Thanks,Jin ChenJin Chen - MSFT

Hi Jin, your post is very useful for me . Thanks for that. But what i need is, can i set the data source dynamically for all the projects at single location where the modification in that single location must reflect in all the projects automatically. Please reply me as soon as possible. Thanks in advance

I guess it will create a new data sourc with the same name. And any change made in the original data source will not reflect in the copied data source. Pls correct me if I am wrong ?Regards, Shashank Verma
