can Adminitrator create list views for certain users?
Hi I am the administrator of a site and want to create a list views for managers to see items related to their dept. for example, I want to create a view for the purchasing dept. manager with filter dept. column = purchasing, so when he open the list he will see only his dept. items. Can I create views and set the permission to those managers? I'm using MOSS 2007

You can create new views. But security levels are only at site / sub-site / Library or List / Folder or item level NOT for views, so while you can play tricks to make the manager think that he only sees the items in that view, in fact provided he/she has the URL of another View he can still access all the items/documents in the list/library. Bearing this in mind, it is probably easier to a) just provide the views marked with the department names - the dept head can then set his/her View URL in his/her Favorites. or (if security is essential) b) create a folder (or perhaps better still a new list) that is restricted only to that dept head. The problem with the second "solution" is that you can't have the same item in two folders/Lists without duplifying the item. You *can* have it in two Views however. Thank Mike It is fine for me that the manager can access the all items. but how can i default the first view to his dept. items only? I don't want to ask each manager to create a personal view, and I don't want also to ask them save their view in the favorite, Isn't there a way where i can create e.g. purchasing view and set it up as a default view for the purchasing manager? and do so for other managers?

There's no good out of the box support for your second question. You can do interesting things with jQuery. You might be able to use the technique described in this blog post as a starting point: http://paulgalvin.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!1CC1EDB3DAA9B8AA!4006.entry --Paul Galvin, Computer Generated Solutions (CGS) Microsoft MVP - SharePoint Blogging @ http://feeds.feedburner.com/PaulGalvinsSharePointSpace Twitter @ http://www.twitter.com/pagalvin
