backup just the documet library while maintaining versions
Guys I have a question in regards to backing up a Sharepoint document library and maintaining the versions. Is there a way to backup a single document library and keep versions the only way I know is doing a stsadm -versions? However stsadm requires you to grab the entire site I just want to grab the library with versions in tact.

Out of the box in SharePoint 2007 , I don't think there's anything from the command line that goes much more granular than the level of a Web (a site within a site collection). STSADM's Backup operation has the ability to target individual Site Collections, and the Export operation (which I think you're talking about here since you mention the Versions switch) can get down to a Web within a Site Collection, but not down to a library or individual item within a list. I can't remember if saving a library as a template with content attached includes versions in the library or not, but you may want to try that through the SharePoint GUI to see if it works: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA100991561033.aspx You should note that your library has to have less than 10 MB of content for this option to work. You might also want to try Keith Richie's free SPIEFolder tool. I don't know if it includes version or not for sure, but I've used it before; it works great and I don't remember anyone complaining about their versions being lost, plus I used it to overcome the site limitation of the Export operation. If those options don't work, you're probably going to have to purchase a third party tool of some sort, or write your own tool that uses the SharePoint object model to move things around exactly the way you want them.
