authenticating with a sub domain
our current server MOSS 2007 server farm is hooked up with the AD domain.com, now we have a requirement for a sister company to be part of the company's exchange, AD and SharePoint but like sister.domain.comIf we make a sub-domain on our current AD will my MOSS 2007 server farm automatically authenticate with the sub-domain as it is already hooked up with the parent domain and user profiles are being imported from the entire forest rather than a domain or an OU only. Please let me know, thanks.M. If you created a sub-domain in your AD, and you're lucky, it will work automagically, but if it doesn't, you can still make it work. You may need to configure your MOSS peoplepicker to search the new sub-domain (see these TechNet articles: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263318.aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263460.aspx). Also, in SSP, you may have to configure user profile import for the new subdomain and provide an account with read access to the domain. There needs to be at least a one-way trust set up between the two domains (and if you configure the new domain as a subdomain, the trust may already be there). All in all, this is a reasonable, practical configuration and you should be able to make it work.Andre Galitsky, MCTS, Washington, DC -- My SharePoint Blog: http://www.sharepointnomad.com
