alerts for document libraries are not working
Hi,
On a MOSS 2007 server I have configured alerts for a document library. I don't receive any confirmation mail after creating the alert.
The document library is mail-enabled. I can send mails with attachments to this library. I can also mail a user from the Sharepoint site.
However the alerts exist but they don't work.
Is this a SMTP problem? I don't know where to look next.
Thanks,
Mihai

Did you find something in SharePoint log? Try to find "Windows SharePoint Services Timer ... AlertsJob".

Yes, it is most probably SMTP configuration issue.
Please make sure that both the OWSTimer service account and SharePoint web application pool identity have the permission to send email through the SMTP server if the SMTP server
does not allow anonymous access (http://www.codeproject.com/KB/winsdk/ConfigServerSmtp.aspx
).
You can check SharePoint ULS log for errors of category E-mail.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your replies.
I think this is an Exchange related problem.
From the MOSS server, I started cmd using the domain administrator account. This is the account used by the Sharepoint Services Timer and by the SharePoint Web Application Pool.
telnet MAIL-Server-IP 25 works
If i try: mail from administrator@training.com I get:
501 5.5.4 Unrecongnized parameter
administrator@training.com
I get the same error using another acount.
I'll investigate this on the Exchange 2003 server.
