I have got the sccm 2012 r2 site server running and am planning to add another site system role server to be MP/DP.

The server is ready - the basic OS (windows server 2012 R2) has been just installed.

I am just wondering before adding the server as a new site system with MP/DP roles, do I need to install required server roles/features on the server, or the required server roles/features will be installed automatically while adding the MP/DP roles?

Hi,

yes do need to install required server roles/ features before you add the server as a site system, I always install all of them myself as I want control. When you add a DP it can coinfigure the IIS automatically but it will not install BITS and RDC which are also required for the DP role.

And as it is a DP you should put the NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS on the drives you don't want SCCM to use as well.
