Q1) Yes that's the version on the server Q2) A restart is not forced and the client will work without the restart Q3) Yes, 2157 is the client version Q4) The client patch must be installed on all configmgr. clients. It's not automatically added to new client installations. You can use the patch=\\server\share\patch to include the client patch in your installations. Just upgraded sccm 2007 SP2 to sccm SP2 R3 with no issue. Now a few questions: Q1: In the site properties, it shows Version: 4.00.6487.2000; R3 Installed: Yes; Build number: 6487 sre these correct? Q2: In the KB977384 - Advanced Client Patch Installation properties, it shows after running: program restarts computer. I tried to deploy the patch to a PC and there was no reboot triggered. Is this correct? Do I need to perform a manual reboot? Q3: After the PC installed the patch, the configuration manager properties on the PC shows the client version is 4.00.6487.2157. Is this correct? Q4: I suppose the patch needs to apply to only clients prior to the KB977384 installation and no need to new clients afterwards. Correct? Thanks for help

You must install this hotfix package before you install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 on a computer, even if it's a new computer. BTW, this hotfix is 977384, not 977483 in thread subject. Hope it helps.
