Zip iFilter
Hi All,
Just want to know first of all does the zip iFilter come with MOSS and support searching contents or do I have to purchase it?
Even if I do purchase it could someone advise me as to whether it is recommended to search zip files? are their any drawbacks? what is best practice?
or should I just unzip contents and upload seperately?
Thanks

Sincerly i prefer unzip files, why.... to associate on document library content types will give to document the most info possbile to make filter like CAML and create a taxonomy on document will be very usefull to your client when they start to organize
document to Business Rules.
About the zip file can recomend this project to compress a group of file to a zip document or a simple document is very usefull...

About the search performance problem, i think is Architecture and Infrastructure problem, dont have a context about your enviroment, but performance on search can be with diferent options, like are you using a Farm, do you have multiple web fronts?
If this is true you can define on search services on Central Administration some rules, like on central administration define as your indexer and the search querys can be made on the web-fronts there you can define your search with best performance....
there is allways the problems about the servers, are x64 or x32, this can be a problem on performance, how is configure the databases, and network all this can have impact on your search?
Another thing you can configure to increase your problems on search is the time you define to your crawls, do you define incrementals crawls every 15 minutes for 15 minutes?
So when you say if are performance issues, then i ask you, the enviroment is prepare for that performance... then will see the software.Andr Lage Microsoft SharePoint, CRM and Sybase Consultant
