Workflow 2013 waits until workflow 2010 finishes by passing parameter values

I want a workflow 2013 to call a workflow 2010 and wait for the workflow 2010 to finish executing. I want to make this call since the impersonate step is not available in workflow 2013. Both workflows use the same custom list. I see that there are actions in workflow 2013 that are called 'start a site workflow' and 'start a lst workflow'.

I am not certain what parameter values to pass betwwen the 2 workflows so that the workflow 2013 knows it can continue. By using the same custom list, I am assuming both workflows knows what unique "ID' record is being used. However, the workflow 2010 has a status code value that it returns and maybe that is what can be returned to workflow 2013 so it knows it can continue to execute.

I found this information by looking at the following links:

1. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj670125(v=office.15).aspx

2. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepointdesigner/archive/2012/08/18/how-to-trigger-a-sharepoint-2010-workflow-from-a-sharepoint-2013-workflow.aspx

Thus can you explain to me what values I should pass between workflow 2013 and  workflow 2010 so that workflow 2013 will know it can continue to execute after the impersonate step in workflow 2010 has finished executing?

Hi Wendy,

Use a SharePoint List and create a record that contains the value where you will pass between workflows, upadte it in main workflow then start the other one and pause till this value changes
