Worflow link to Infopath form tries to open in the browser instead of client.

Howdy,

I have a SharePoint workflow which I used the [%Current Item:Encoded Absolute URL%] to link to a completed .xml Infopath form.  Both SP and the form are NOT set as browser form, they should open in the Infopath client. But clicking this link in the email tried to open the form in the browser, then returns as error.

If I browser to the library and click the form, it opens correctly using the client app.

Any suggestions?

Hi PrairieSailor,

What error did you meet in your testing?

I tested as your description, however, I could not reproduce this issue. When I clicked the link in workflow email, it first tried to open the form in the browser, then promted a dailog like:

I clicked Open, the form was opened using InfoPath client.

Thanks,

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Thank you for reviewing my problem.  This is the error I receive:

This form cannot be opened in a Web browser. To open this form, use Microsoft InfoPath.
Click Close to exit this message.

Correlation ID:29d5259d-e02f-2000-15b3-4d57e73d0b0f

My default browser is Chrome, but I copy past the URL to IE and also get same error.  When clicking OK you get the message.  "The form has been closed".

The link looks properly formed to me, https://company.sharepoint.com/operations/Overtime/First%20Last-2015-08-18-2.5hrs.xml

Hi Prairie,

Are you using SharePoint 2013 On-premise or SharePoint 2013 Online?

For this issue, I suggest you check the error message based on the Correlation ID. For SharePoint 2013 On-premise, you can check the error message as the link:

However, if you are using SharePoint 2013 Online, you are unable to check the error message by yourself. I suggset you create a new thread on Office 365 forum, there are some backend engineers who could check SharePoint Online log file and more experts will assist you with SharePoint Online.

Office 365 forum:

Thanks,

Wendy
