Hi,
maybe you can provide more detail like the code snippets? I personally cannot think of a reason on to why this things is happening.
Hi Ranjoe
thanks for ur response..
let me explain wats going on here
I created a sharepoint designer workflow and associated it with a list ... the thing is if any item is created in a list then the workflow starts.. issue am facing is if try to start workflow manually it works fine .. but if i start the worflow automatic it shows rejected status soon after item is created in document library dont know y this is happening..
Am not logged in as System account user.. am a normal test user
Hi,
Is there any eventhandler attached in document library?
hi manoj
there is no event handler attached to this document library
Hello,
What is your workflow doing? Could it be an error with your item's metadatas?
Hi christopher,
am just creating a workflow for appraisal
Details of workflow
Created a SharePoint Document Library with the following functionalities for Appraisal:
1. Employee Name is a mandatory column
2. text Field For Year mandatory column
3. Appraise and Reviewer as people fields and mandatory(associated this column in sharepoint designer associate columns.)
3. Status with following choices:
Draft
Pending Employee
Pending Appraisal
Pending Review
Completed
4. Created a Workflow to notify Employee when submitted, then Appraiser and then to Reviewer only if reviewer is different from Appraiser.
after publishing this designer workflow ... and if i start this workflow manually its working fine .. but auto workflow showing rejected as status if item created
If you are working with document library it could be why.
I'm not sure with workflow but when you work with event on document library items, when you add new item , it create the item then show you the pop-up where you can field metadata and once you save your form, it's considered as an update.
So maybe your workflow is starting before your metadata are filled.
Can you try to set the workflow to start on update (not on creation) and check if it works?
if yes, maybe you can work with that (and maybe add a "cancel if modified" option)
Thanks for the immediate response Christopher,
U said try to start workflow on update right... my question i dont see any option like this in sharepoint designer start options... only three option are there to enable the check box
1.Allow workflow to start manually
2.Allow workflow to start if item created
3.Allow workflow to start if item modified
mmm yes its working now ...... now the issue is after item is submitted to the next level user ... (Take this case if user fills his appraiser name and reviewer name while after uploading a document).. henceforth on submission the next level user is still able to change the users mentioned by initiator .. am giving contribute access to the next level users to approve the document..
my question next level users should only approve/reject the document rather than editing the users... to achieve this wat access to be given the next level user.. thanks in advance chrishtopher
I think the approver only need to have read access to the document and contribute on his task.
Isn't it OOB?
I think that if the task is not assigned to you or to onoe of your groups, you can't approve it (except for administrators)
- You have a document library with a custom approval workflow, only contributors can create/edit document. Approvers can only read item, the workflow starts when you update an item and create a task in the thask list associated to a user/group
- Approvers needs to have contribute access to task list and if they tried they can't approve/reject task not assigned to them (I think it's OOB)
- When approvers approve/reject a task, the workflow goes to the next step, either create a new task or change the workflow status to approved/rejected.(don't need to add permissions to approvers on the document library, it's the workflow that is doing the stuff
Am I right?
Hello Thiyagesh,
Is it an out of box workflow that you are using or you created one in designer? There is a setting for workflow to be triggered when item is created. I would also get some sharepoint logs by setting workflows to verbose under the "SharePoint foundation " category, reproduce the issue and look through the logs .
That will give us some more pointers.
Thanks!

Shruti
