Wizard-generated report does not show details with default font
I created a new report in BIDS 2008 R2 against the Adventureworks database. No parameters, just a simple demo report against the Products table. When rendered in Preview mode, the Report headings appear normally but the details rows were blank--they were all there, just empty. When the report was exported to PDF it rendered fine. When the report.RDL was passed to another development system it rendered fine. When I changed the font size of the wizard-chosen "Tahoma" font from 10pt to 11pt, it worked fine. I chose a random set of other fonts--some worked, some did not. Others that failed included Vani, Tempus Sans, University Roman Let and many others. Those that worked included Times Roman, Trebuchet MS and Arial. Are some of these True-type fonts? Is there a system-wide setting that might be affecting how these are rendered in Visual Studio BIDS? Word renders the fonts just fine. So does Visual Studio's code editor and in other windows. The system is running Windows 7 but it's a W510 with a touch-screen (which might play a role). The system has 16BB of RAM so I don't really think RAM is a constraint. I tried installing Windows 7 SP1 but it did not fix anything. I have SQL Server 2008 R2 with all of the current service packs applied. Ideas?__________________________________________________________________ William Vaughn Mentor, Consultant, Trainer, MVP http://betav.com http://betav.com/blog/billva http://www.hitchhikerguides.net Hitchhikers Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition) Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!

Ugh tough one - does it work if you deploy the report to the server and try to view it there ? There's always been issues with the Preview window - personally I've found the rendering difference to be so annoying that I almost always deploy to a report server during development. Apparently it has something to do with the HTML renderer used in BIDS

It works fine post deployment--and even in another system's BIDS tools. Today's challenge is to find out what the failing fonts have in common that the fonts that work do not.__________________________________________________________________ William Vaughn Mentor, Consultant, Trainer, MVP http://betav.com http://betav.com/blog/billva http://www.hitchhikerguides.net Hitchhikers Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition) Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!
