Windows cannot shrink currently due to the presence of data towards the end of the volume. As older recovery points expire, Windows should be able to shrink the volume. Please retry this operation after a few recovery points have expired

Hello,

I am getting the error mentioned below, while trying to shrink recovery point volume.

Windows cannot shrink currently due to the presence of data towards the end of the volume. As older recovery points expire, Windows should be able to shrink the volume. Please retry this operation after a few recovery points have expired

What should I do to be able to shrink? Because, the allocated volume is 1 TB and used volume is just 8 GB.

Thanks and Re

Hi,

Windows vss shadow copies use pinned files that cannot be moved by defrag engine so you need to wait for offending shadow copy to be deleted.

You can look in application event log there should be events by defrag detailing the file name that is preventing the shrink.
