Windows Steady state doesn't install
When installing Windows SteadyState on a Windows XP SP3 machine, all goes well until the very end when a Command Prompt window flashes on the screen and I get the message, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program
run as part of the set up did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I have tried downloading the .msi from multiple sources and updating my system, both with no luck.
Thanks for any help.

Can you tell me the registry keys that Windows SteadyState creates?
Also, that is where I downloaded the file in the past.

Hi,
Navigate and delete the following two branches:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Computer Toolkit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows SteadyState
Also delete files under C:\Program Files\Windows SteadyState.

Hi,
I successfully got into services.msc and discovered that the Windows Installer service was not running. I also noticed a service called Windows SteadyState, but when I tried to start it it said "This service is marked for deletion" After starting the
Windows Installer service the installation got a little farther. An icon appeared on my desktop, but then it displayed the same error message and the icon disappeared.
Thanks, samviva

Do not start “Windows SteadyState” service, because it doesn’t install properly.
And please disable “Windows SteadyState service” in System Configuration Utility:
1 Click “Start”
2 Click “Run”
3 Input “msconfig” and press Enter
4 Go to Services, remove “Windows SteadyState Service” and click Apply
5 Go to Startup, check if there were any startup item of Windows SteadyState (Bubble or
SCTUINotify), also remove it
6 Click “OK” and restart PC
After reboot PC, install Windows SteadyState again.
Note: Please check Windows Install Service is start.

Hi,
There is nothing associated with SteadyState in the "System Configuration Utility". After a reboot, I checked if the "Windows
Installer service" was running and it was. But yet another install failed the same way. Thanks, samviva
