Mine Vista is 64. I installed Windows Steady State 2.5, but it was wrong. Now I must take it off, but i can not stop Auto-Protect funktion. What can I do?

Hi Matti, What error message was received when stopping it? Based on my experience, SteadyState may not work properly on 64bit platform (either XP or Vista). You can delete the cache file from Safe Mode, and then check if the program can be removed. If the WDP file can be deleted, we can remove the program manually from registry and drive C. 1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple Operating Systems, you can press the F8 key when you see the boot menu. 2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe Mode, and then press Enter. 3. Log onto Windows by using the Administrator account or any user account with the Administrator privileges. 4. Delete the Cache.wdp file under drive C. If the cache file cannot be found, lets show hidden files with the following steps. ----------------------- 1. Open drive C: Click Organize menu-> Folders and search option. 2. Click the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders." 3. To display other hidden files, clear the "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" check box. 4. Click the "Hide extensions for known file types". 5. Click OK. After that, delete related registry keys and files ----------------------- 1. Click Start and then Run. 2. Type in regedit and then click OK. 3. Navigate and delete the following two branches: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Computer Toolkit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows SteadyState 4. Yes! Thank you very much of your help! To day I got it in condition. There were some other wrong too, although I do not know what was it. But now it seems to bee OK. I hope, that this condition is lasting. I could not take away three programs (.exe and .dll), but perhaps they can stay there. I got from Norton a new updateing too. Hi Shawn Shao; thank you for your interest, The exact error message is "could not open library "C:\Porgram Files\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 6 Professional\Library\CONNECTORS.LIB" we want use steady state in order to prevent students to change computer settings, to install programs and to reach C drive. however, we can not open such programs that's why we can not use the program exactly. the interesting thing is that only one computer can run Proteus with steady state. please help us. best regards.

Hi, If the program works on another computer, we can compare the SteadyState configurations to check if there is any different. To troubleshoot this issue, we can also create a new user account and configure "No Restrictions" to test. If the issue doesn't occur, we can raise the restriction level to continue. In addition, please also check the following restrictions: 1. Open SteadyState, under "Set Computer Restrictions", uncheck "Prevent users from creating folders and files on drive C:\" 2. This is aparticularly persistent program but it can be removed if you follow the steps listed. 1. Open the program on the Start menu. 2. Select Protect Disk 3.At the top, select the do not protect option. 4. Close the program and reboot the computer. When the computer is fully rebooted, open the control panel and select the Add/Remove Programs. 1. Go to Windows Steady State 2. Select the remove option. 3.When completed, reboot the computer. Program is completely removed.

It starts to uninstall but then tells me the disk protection is active and must be turned off. It's not on, I had to disable it because no matter what I did, update, delete, whatever, as soon as I rebooted everything was back the way it was. For TWO WEEKS!! I don't know why I ever downloaded it. Trusted Microsoft I guess. So now that I disabled it it is actually uninstalled, but just the disk protection. I want to get completly rid of it, but the stupid program won't because it thinks it's still on. Any suggestions? Are there any free uninstall programs?

Hi, Steady State is not showing in "Add remove Programs" ! I disabled all checkboxes in Steady State itself. Can I just delete the Steady State folder ? Are there any registry keys I need to delete also ? Thanks...

Make sure you have the system requirements as stated on Microsoft's SteadState download page. I installed SteadyState (at my own risk) on my Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) box and had the same problem that you're describing. The fix? - Win-R (this key combo opens the 'run' dialog box) - enter 'Services.msc' (without the quotes) - Press Enter - Find Windows SteadyState Service and stop it (you can now minimize the services window) - Next, open a command prompt as an administrator - Use the SC command to remove the service (Disclaimer: Only perform this step for this service. Do so at your own risk) - Example C:\>SC delete "Windows SteadyState" - Press Enter - Restore the services window, press F5 to refresh and verify that the Windows SteadyState Service is now gone. - Now you may uninstall Windows SteadyState *NOTE: These instructions are a supplement to all other troubleshooting steps already found in this forum thread. Please ensure that you have already attempted to disable the disk protection service as well as delete the cache file and stopped the relevant processes before attempting to follow the steps above.
