Windows SharePoint Services Timer does not stop
Hi all;
For some reasons I want to stop and then restart the "Windows SharePoint Services Timer" service on my Windows Server 2003 SP2 server, but the following error message appears:
Could not stop the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I am using Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 with Service Pack 2.
Any idea?
Thanks

Hi imprise,
Is it a 32 core machine?
Is it Windows Server 2003 SP2 64 bit edition?
If this is your situation, please try these steps to walk through this issue:
1.
Open Registry Editor
2.
Locate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions
3.
Right click "Web Server Extensions" and click [New] - [Key]
4.
Name the new key "HeapSettings"
5.
Ensure the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\HeapSettings is created
6.
Right click on "HeapSettings" key and click [New] - [DWORD value]
7.
Rename DWORD key created in step 7 as "LocalHeapWarnCount"
8.
Double click on "LocalHeapWarnCount"
9.
"Edit DWORD Value" dialog will open. Enter [Value data] = 64
10. Reboot SharePoint server.
Hope it helps.
Thanks & Regards.
