Windows Explorer takes a long time to open
I am working with a Windows 2008 R2 terminal server. From the command prompt, I enter "explorer" and takes about 16 seconds to open the explorer window. I get the same slow response from Start - All Programs - Accessories - Windows Explorer. However, if I right click the start button and select "Open Windows Explorer," Explorer opens almost instantaneously. What would cause the command line to open Explorer so slowly? I have a couple of mapped drives that all work correctly. The problem affects all users (including administrators -local and domain) on the terminal server in the same way. Even new users which did not previously have a profile on the machine. I have turned off network discovery, file and printer sharing, and public folder sharing but it did not make a difference.

After checking the issue, it seems this is a general Windows Server related issue. As this forum focuses on Windows SteadyState specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows server forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/windowsserver/ The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us.
