Windows Computer Disk Space Capacity Used
Hello everyone!I need to graph used space of disk capacity. I know we canretrieve a percentage, but I need to know the actual used amount. For example, when you right click and select properties of the C drive from your my computer, you get used disk space amount and free disk space amount. I have not seen in SCOM where the disk used space amount is captured and graphed.Other peopleI work with have several needs for this, 1) to check full backup amounts against the drives to ensure that all is there (drive sizes do change), and 2) To say to people you have used a physical amount of space verses a percentage, which can change when bigger drives are added.Thank you in advance for any ideas or help on this issue! Have a great day!T M

In the Monitoring space, expand Microsoft Windows Server --> Performance and you will see performance views for Disk Capacity Disk Performance Disk UtilizationThere are a couple of free reports out there. http://www.systemcentercentral.com/Downloads/DownloadsDetails/tabid/144/IndexID/19170/Default.aspx Pete Zerger, MVP-OpsMgr and SCE | http://www.systemcentercentral.com

Thank you for the prompt reply Pete. When you open the "My Computer" and right click on the C: and select properties, you will see:Used Space: 34GBFree Space: 45GBCapacity: 79GBI have seen the areas in SCOM you mentioned but I was unable to find a "Used Space"object in the perfromance graphs. I looked in Perfmon but it does not get the "Used Space", only the Free MB and Percentage Free. I need to gather/graph the used space in MB or GB. I have not delved to much into reports to calculate the used space, I was hoping it would be an easy grab off of the servers or just an easy calculation in the reports.Thank you in advance for any ideas or help on the issue!T M

Hi TM,counter "Used Space" is not collected, because this counter is not present i Performance for Windows Servers. You can use and collect only counter that Windows server offers. You can checked on windows server directly to open Performance and Add new counters. These counters you can collect. If you want to have in OpsMgr console more then from OS MP, you have to create custom Rule for performance collection.Jan

I just finished up a two part series on how to collect this information and report on it. Let me know if this helps. I have not fully tested for scom 2007. You may have to use report builder 2.0 for 2007. http://scom-2012.blogspot.com/2012/07/setup-disk-report-in-scom-2012-part-1.html http://scom-2012.blogspot.com/2012/07/setup-disk-report-in-scom-2012-part-2.html
