Windows 7 is still just so much better!

The problem with 10 is it is functionally no different from 8.1, the Metro UI stuff that I hate is still baked in, the only difference now is it doesn't go full screen any more. For example when I'm signing into a wireless connection; instead of it all being done in one window, you have the Metro UI pop up on the side of the main screen and you juggle between two UIs. This is especially annoying for multiple monitor setups, but it also makes no sense why you have more than one Window and UI do the task that is so simply done in 7 with just one. These issues pop up all over 8/8.1 and 10, I just want 10 to function like 7 did as it was perfect. I'm forced however to upgrade to 10 because of DX12... just annoying. I still don't understand why 10 has made no efforts to build in auto SSD detect functionality to protect it from being destroyed by things like auto defragging and indexing.

THE WORST thing however is when I want to find simple things like services.msc, msconfig, defrag and just all those things you could so easily access in 7 by searching. In Windows 8/10 it either doesn't show up and you have to go hunting through several layers of UI to find it. Or you find it, click on it and it does nothing and then you have to manually search for it and run it under admin mode to get it to do anything.

The whole OS is now a mess, 7 works perfectly, I just want to use that... why can't you just have a mode where I can ditch all the metro crap and have pure classic Desktop like 7?

SC

Did you report these using the feedback app?  That goes directly to those developing the OS.  My workaround for the buried services is to use "godmode"

I would imagine it has more to do with having a consistent experience accross the various platforms, tablet, mobile(cell phone) and desktop/laptop.  I like Win 7 as well, but I am getting more and more used to the Win 10 look and feel.

I can find all that I need.  Took me a bit to find a disk clone, but it saved me a reinstall just yesterday actually.

If you dislike Win 10 TP so much, don't install it.

Stay with Win 7 and be happy.

Other than letting out some steam, what good will come out of the "discussion" ?...... none. What you dislike will remain what you dislike.

Will MS take notes ?....... not unless it is posted in Feedback app, and even then, they might reject it entirely.

To borrow a saying.....   It's like religion, either you believe it, or you don't.

There's a shortcut for that.  Press Win-I.  But if you didn't know that there are various GUI ways to get the same result.  That's improved usability IMO than the W8 Charms bar Settings bar.

seriously, windows 7 feel sluggish compared to windows 8.

win+r is no longer still available with windows 8, win+r is now integrated to search. you can type directly on the search box for services.msc, msconfig, defrag to find it.

windows 10 TP is not yet final, it is a mess for now. MS still working on it.

I missed the memo.   FWIW ever since W8DP I have pinned Run to my Taskbar in position 1.  Originally I had to have it there because I missed the Start button but since then I have realized how much I use it that way anyway.

win+r is now integrated to search.

I saw the blog about that one but I don't think the Search bar (in any of its incarnations) ever worked that generally for me.  Now I can't even press Win-F to try to avoid a web search and Store search.  However, I'm glad to see that Win-w and Win-q may do something special.
