Windows 7 deployment
We have approx. 300 users with Windows XP Prof. and want to deploy Windows 7 along with our standard software/application which is used within our environment. Is there a way I can deploy this automatically and how many machine at a time to avoid the bandwidth and traffic on our Network. Thanks Deep Kumar

Hello Deep, You cannot deploy the Operating System with SCE. To do this job, you need System Center Configurations Manager(SCCM). For more details, please read the article below: Operating System Deployment in Configuration Manager http://myitforum.com/cs2/files/folders/proddocs/entry105782.aspx For questions about System Center Configuration Manager, please use the following Forums: System Center Configuration Manager Forums http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/configurationmanager Thanks,Yog Li - MSFT

Or you can use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) 2010, but it will be a LTI deployment not ZTI like SCCM. for more information about MDT & W7: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/solutionaccelerators/dd407791.aspx http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Deploying-Windows-7-Part5.html If you have questions on MDT, you can see this forum : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mdt/threads Bechir Gharbi. Sorry for the late reply. We only have SCE2007 installed at the moment. So this means we have to purchase SCCM and install with SCE2007 or on a seperate box? ThanksDeep Kumar

Really you don't need to purchase SCCM, you can use MDT 2010 to deploy Windows 7. for more info about deployment W7 using MDT 2010 : http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Deploying-Windows-7-Part6.html Also, Lite Touch: * Deployment without management infrastructure. * Process initiated by the administrator (manually). * Uses network shares, Windows Deployment Services, CD/DVD, or USB. * Refresh, upgrade, replace or new computer. Zero Touch: * Uses System Center Configuration Manager 2007's OS deployment features. * Scheduled via ConfigMgr and completely automated. * Centrally monitored with System Center Operations Manager 2007 Management Pack. * Refresh, replace, or new computer. Hi, I have not much experience with windows 7. I have to switch 300 plus users from XP to windows 7, along with their data/applications/software. Is MDT or AIK is something that I can consider using it? OR should I think of using some sort of imaging like ghost or RISC? Please any advice/help would be appreciated. Deep Kumar

you don't need to use ghost, you can migrate your OS machine with MDT : http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Deploying-Windows-7-Part14.html Also using USMT with MDT it will give you the possibility to backup/restore users profiles and you can create script to backup other user data.
