Windows 7 and WSS 3.0 Explorer View
When our Windows 7 machines (32bit and 64bit) try to access a Shared Document list in "Explorer View" by click on the action menu and choosing "Open with Windows Exporer" nothing happens. I've searched and read a lot of information in regards to this
but I haven't been able to find an answer on how to resolve this issue. Our users don't experience the pop-up message "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer." The best way I can explain what happens is IE spins
for about 15 seconds and then nothing happens. You can repeat this action multiple times and Windows Explorer never opens.
We are running WSS 3.0 on Windows 2008 R2 64bit (we are not using SSL) and our client computers are running Windows 7 32 Professional (a few have 64bit professional) all have the most recent updates and using IE8 as their browser. I've
verified that WebClient service is running on the client machines, and IE8 has "Automatically Detect settings" uncheck under LAN settings. Oh, and I can't map a network drive to a sharepoint list either.
Outside of this one issue, everything else on SharePoint works fine.
I found this article:
http://netindonesia.net/blogs/andriyadi/archive/2010/01/04/wss-3-0-sp2-on-windows-server-2008-r2-open-with-windows-explorer-failed.aspx
Step one walks you through enabling "Desktop Experience" in Windows 2008 but I'm not interested in accessing shared documents in explorer view in Windows 2008.
Step two (titled "It’s Not Enough, More Steps") talks about removing a module from IIS. I have not tried this yet and was wondering if anyone else has had any luck doing this? I feel as if this is all that is needed to resolve the issue
Microsoft would have released an update by now that did this automatically.
Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Having the same problem. Also getting a Windows Cannot Access http://sharepoint.*.com/ error when I try to map a drive to the sharepoint library.
Stopped, restarted webclient service Rebooted
Sharepoint works fine from the web on this machine and WebDAV mappings work fine from other machines...
