Windows 7 Pre-Provisioning partition OSDISK and DATADISK possible ?

I read a post on the internet: Link

In here is explained that you can't Pre-Provisioning 2 disks win Windows 7 during OSD.....but is that still the case ?

Or is there a way to get this working ?

I have a system with 1TB disk. During deployment I pre-provisioning the OSDISK of 400GB. This takes seconds :-)

After finishing the deployment I encrypt the DATADISK which takes up to 6 hours although it is empty.

Is there a way to Pre-Provisioning both OSDISK and DATADISK during the WinPE phase and for Windows 7 ?

Any ideas ? How ?

Are you talking about pre-provisioning bitlocker?

If so, starting with ConfigMgr 2012 R2 there is a pre-provision BitLocker task. This requires that you use a WinPE 5.0 boot image though. This task does two things: it sets up BitLocker on an empty volume (the pre-provisioning part) *and* it enables used space only encryption (even though Windows 7 doesn't know about that).

Yes pre provisioning bitlocker. It worked with SCCM 2012 sp1 and Windows 7. But can you pre provision 2 partitions at the same time, eg osdisk and datadisk Then (using task sequence) install os and apps on osdisk and then enable bitlocker on osdisk and enable bitlocker on datadisk. Is that working ? Ps. The data disk is an empty disk during deployment and i want to get rid of the required 6 hours of bitlockerring an empty disk !

Yes.

As mentioned, if your are using R2 and WinPE 5.0 based boot images, then the pre-provision task also enables used space only encryption in Bitlocker.

Yes but can 2 partitions be pre provisioned at the same time ?

Sure. Can't say I've tried although this really is a question for a Windows forum as it's not ConfigMgr performing the work, it's Windows.

Why would you have two disks for Win 7 though? You're simply adding complexity to a simple task without any additional gain.

Our configuration contains a 400gb is partition and a 600 partition on the same drive for data. According to the link I provide in my first post this goes wrong in sccm 2012 task sequence. I was wondering if someone has got this working. Maybe I first need to try myself.....

In general I *think* that pre-provisioning should work on multiple volumes (Never tried). Just might be an issue with how ConfigMgr handles it.

I would recommend that you file this issue on connect, and please add a link to the blog post.

Or, better yet, don't do two partitions. They provide no value and just introduce complexity.

It would be very easy to say use only one partition. Yes that is true, that will work.

But I do have 2 partitons....could it be working with 2 partitions is the questions. I think it should but customized configuring of the task sequence is required, like putting sleeps in between of additonal scripts which check if the preprovisioning is done on partition 1 and then continues on partition 2.....

Up until now i did not yet have time to test that....so I was wondering is someone else had did test that already..

no i guess...

I did talk to the guy that own OSD and the guy that owns BitLocker.

There might be an issue, but the only way you can get this fixed is by submitting this as a bug on connect.

Submitting something on connect is not a guarantee that it will be fixed, but if it's not in the system I can guarantee that it wont be fixed :-)

i leave this now for what it is...for the c-drive i enable preprovisioning and the d-drive i run a script at the end which enable bitlocker normally.

that works fine now.

maybe i will investigate the pre-provisioning again in a newer version of my task sequence.
