Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 8.1 recording device not working

Hello. Just yesterday before my upgrade to Windows 10 on my ASUS windows 8.1 laptop, my Mic was working properly. I was able to to with friends on Skype and such. Now, after the up my Mic doesn't seem to be picking up on sound. It isn't disabled; it's there, just not responding I guess? I'm not really sure. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Same here, Skype works fine so I know the mic is working. With Windows 8 all was well.

RealTek?  Me too (on Surface 2 Pro) but Speech Recognition definitely informed me that the basic hardware was inadequate for its needs.   Why?   It allowed me to try but very unenthusiastically.

Have you tried using  soundrec.exe?  Converted some old recordings?  I can't remember the quality of the originals in W8.1.2 but I doubt they were as bad as they are implying they were.  New recordings sound better which suggests that Speech Recognition should be getting even better signals than previously.  So what's wrong?

Fortunately Cortana is more forgiving but maybe that's just because she has a much more limited repertoire to analyze from.
