Windows 10 technical preview Installation fails
I've been trying to install the Windows 10 technical preview on my pc for 4 times. It seems that all installation works perfectly; checking system installing etc. When installation is done and I log in again. Nothing has changed; it is still Windows 7 what is running. Can I see somewhere what went wrong? btw no error massages appear, no damage is done and windows 7 is running properly again. Can you assist me with this matter. If my pc is unsuitable for installation of Windows 10 how can I delete the messages that "Windows 10 technical preview is ready" form the update centre? please your reaction. Best regards Johan

Have you checked if your computer is ready for upgrade ?

If not, please use this Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant to check for compatibility.

Why Windows 8.1 ? It is because if your computer is compatible to uprade to Win 8.1, it is compatible for Win 10 Technical Preview  as well.

One more information................

excerpt: ( source )

If you're running Windows 7 without SP1, you can only upgrade to the preview by downloading an ISO file.

If you install Windows 7 SP1, you can upgrade to the preview by using Windows Update or by downloading an ISO file.

OK David Thank you for your reply. The windows update assistant reports only one app that's not compatible and 11 apps which can be updated. All hardware that is found is OK. I now removed the not compatable app (because there was a newer working version on my system) and i will see what happens afterwards i will install the sp1. Thank You so far. Best regards Johan I'll be back when everything runs.

Hello David,

I've  run the steps you suggested and installation from the dvd (where I burned the iso-file to) started. My PC got frozen at 70% of the installation. I left de computer on for one night and this morning it still was at 70%.  I rebooted then and had to use the recoverydisk to recover my windows 7, which runs smootly again.

do you have any suggestions?

Best regards Johan

I wonder if you would be successful had you installed SP1.

Care to try it that way ?
