Have you checked if your computer is ready for upgrade ?
If not, please use this Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant to check for compatibility.
Why Windows 8.1 ? It is because if your computer is compatible to uprade to Win 8.1, it is compatible for Win 10 Technical Preview as well.

One more information................
excerpt: ( source )
If you're running Windows 7 without SP1, you can only upgrade to the preview by downloading an ISO file.
If you install Windows 7 SP1, you can upgrade to the preview by using Windows Update or by downloading an ISO file.

Hello David,
I've run the steps you suggested and installation from the dvd (where I burned the iso-file to) started. My PC got frozen at 70% of the installation. I left de computer on for one night and this morning it still was at 70%. I rebooted then and had to use the recoverydisk to recover my windows 7, which runs smootly again.
do you have any suggestions?
Best regards Johan
I wonder if you would be successful had you installed SP1.
Care to try it that way ?
